Delving into the intersection of orthodontics with speech pathology, the discussion emphasizes how orthodontic issues like malocclusions can influence speech production and the importance of collaboration between orthodontists and SLPs in managing these challenges. The presentation covers the evolution of orthodontic needs from childhood through adulthood, highlighting interceptive strategies for children and aesthetic and functional corrections for adults. Innovations in orthodontic practices, such as digital imaging and teledentistry, are also explored, underscoring their benefits for integrated patient care.

meet the presenterS
Born and raised in Bethesda, Dr. Maddy Goodman is thrilled to be serving her hometown community. With an endodontist father, a future in dentistry was on her radar from an early age. Dr. Goodman attended the Holton-Arms School for middle and high school where she took her first Latin-language classes. This passion transferred to her time at Duke University where she majored in Classical Languages and graduated Magna Cum Laude as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She then headed to the University of Pennsylvania for dental school and graduated first in her class before completing her orthodontic residency at Tufts University. Dr. Goodman is past president of the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, the legislative body representing our region to the American Association of Orthodontists.
