SLP Side Hustles: Turning Myofunctional Therapy Into a Thriving Business

If you’ve ever dreamed about private practice or creating a specialty within your SLP career, myofunctional therapy is a powerful way to make it happen. Many SLPs start offering myo services as a side hustle—and watch it grow into something much more.

Here’s how to start smart:

Niche down and get clear. Know your ideal client—thumb suckers, tongue thrusters, post-brace teens?

Set up a part-time schedule. Offer 2–3 afternoon sessions per week and scale from there. Keep things manageable while you learn and grow.

Build partnerships. Local orthodontists, ENTs, pediatric dentists, and sleep specialists are ideal referral partners. Start by introducing yourself and offering a quick overview of what you do.

Market online. A simple website, a Google Business listing, and an Instagram or Facebook page can go a long way. Share educational content and success stories (with consent, of course).

Stay organized. Use systems like Google Workspace or a therapy practice platform to track clients, schedule sessions, and manage payments.

This isn’t just about making extra money—it’s about building a career path that lights you up. You get to take ownership of your time, set your rates, and build deep relationships with your clients.

Many SLPs start with one or two clients and quickly realize the demand for myofunctional therapy is higher than expected. Families are looking for help, and they trust SLPs to guide them.

SLP Spotlight: How Lauren Tsasipoulous Went From Burned Out to Booked Out

Lauren Tsasipoulous had spent years working as a school-based SLP. She loved her students but often felt stretched too thin—overwhelmed by paperwork, overloaded with caseloads, and under-supported when it came to professional growth. Like many SLPs, she started to wonder: Is this it? Is this what I want for the rest of my career?

In early spring, Lauren came across the Simon Says Myofunctional Therapy Bootcamp. She had always been curious about myo but felt intimidated by the idea of adding “one more thing” to her plate. Still, something about the bootcamp spoke to her. It promised clarity, confidence, and a step-by-step path—not just to learn the techniques, but to build a business around them.

Lauren enrolled, and everything changed.

By the end of the bootcamp, she had not only completed her myo certification but had also outlined her ideal client avatar, built referral relationships with three local providers, and launched her practice's Instagram page. She started seeing two clients after school hours—and within two months, word-of-mouth spread.

She went from two clients… to twenty.

Lauren now runs her own full-time myofunctional therapy practice and never looked back. She’s making more than she did in the schools, has full control of her schedule, and works with clients she genuinely loves helping.

Simon Says Speech helps SLPs go from side hustle to successful business with training, business templates, and ready-to-use programs. Start building the private practice you’ve been dreaming about.
